Portraying the 1950's
In the film Mona Lisa Smile we see how the 1950's was portrayed. In the 1950's women were expected to do everything for the men. Woman started to go to school, but once they found a boyfriend and eventually got married they were expected to drop out of school and be a stay at home mom. They were expected to work at home all day while the man was at work and then when the man came home she was suppose to make dinner and others things for him. Everything also seemed perfect in the 1950's. People acted like everything was how it was suppose to be, but under it all people were not as happy as their appearance looked. The 1950's was also portrayed as a black and white society. Everything was boring and was suppose to go a certain way and if you didn't follow that way you were looked upon as a sinner and different. The 1950's may have been portrayed as the perfect ideal time in life, but really underneath it all everyone had their own problems and life was not as perfect as it was put out to be.
