First sentence in The Bell Jar

In the first line of The Bell Jar the line talks about the main character Esther and about the Rosenburgs executions. The main character Esther is a very confused character and is very offended by the fact that the Rosenburgs are getting executed. When you read the first sentence of the novel at first I was not sure by the meaning, but after I re read it over again I put things together and realized that Esther is a very sensitive and confused girl and does not know what she wants in life. This is what i took from the first sentence of the novel and I know this is a short blog but I dont know what else to write about.
