Their eyes were watching god..Ch. 1,2 response

In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie returns to her home after living with the man she ran off with named Tea Cake. When she walks down the road she gets starred at by most of the townspeople. The townspeople all start to assume things about why Janie has returned home. The townspeople assume that the man she ran off with, also know as Tea Cake has left her and took all of her money. They all do think that she is very pretty. This experience is similar to the one she goes through while growing up playing with the Washburn children. While growing up and playing with the Washburn children that were white, she was also made fun of by the blacks for living in the back yard of a white couples house and playing with white people. This is just like when she returns home and is mocked by all of the people on the porch.
